Our Journey to Kidney-Failure Cooking
Hi, I’m Trichelle!
In January of 2024 my husband was unexpectedly diagnosed with kidney failure.
It came as quite a shock to us.
We were told dialysis and the kidney transplant list were likely in his future. We went home with a Nephrology referral, a heavy heart, and a long list of foods he could NOT eat.
As his caregiver, I stared at that list and wondered, What on earth will we eat now? It was a daunting task to look at that list and try to come up with recipes that were enjoyable to eat.
I went to the store and quickly realized that I needed our grocery purchases to be fresh produce and poultry as much as possible, and what little processed food I bought, I had to read every ingredient diligently.
That experience opened my eyes. I couldn’t imagine going through this without someone at home to help navigate it all, especially when you’re already carrying the emotional weight of a serious diagnosis.
While there are good resources for Chronic Kidney Disease, it was much more arduous finding flavorful meals that strictly limit potassium and eliminate phosphates for someone in Acute Kidney Failure.
This cookbook is the resource I wish I had when our journey began.
Inside you’ll find:
A simple pantry planner
An easy, practical meal plan
Tips and tricks I learned through trial and error
I hope that our experience blesses you and can help you bring life and flavor back to the table again.
